Releasing to Receive

If you’re opting to do this course, there's a good chance you're already carrying something. Maybe it's a project you never finished, or a version of yourself you've outgrown but still perform. Maybe it's a rejection you replay, a "should" someone handed you years ago, or a quiet grief for the creative life you thought you'd be living by now.

Most of us are taught that creative growth is about adding: more ideas, more discipline, more visibility, more opportunity. But creative life has limited room.

Your time, energy, and attention are finite. When old stories, old identities, and old obligations take up that space, there's less of it left for what's next. It's hard to receive something new with full hands.

That's why this course starts with releasing. Releasing isn't about forcing yourself to let go, pretending something didn't matter, or erasing your past work. Most of what we hold onto once served us. It protected us, helped us belong, or got us through a hard season.

Releasing is simply the practice of noticing what you're holding, thanking it for what it did, and deciding whether it still gets a place in your creative life. Receiving is the other half. Many creatives find it surprisingly hard to accept recognition, opportunity, support, money, or even rest. You'll get to practice that too. But the order matters. When you make room first, what arrives has somewhere to land.
