IN THIS LESSON

Instructions

Time: 20–30 minutes

You'll need: a pen, a timer, and a page divided into three columns

Step 1: Brain dump (10 minutes). Set a timer. Write down everything you're carrying in your creative life: beliefs, projects, roles, stories, obligations, feelings. Don't edit or organize. If it comes to mind, it goes on the page.

Prompts if you get stuck:

  • "I still think of myself as someone who ___."

  • "I haven't let myself ___ because ___."

  • "I'm tired of being known for ___."

  • "I keep telling myself I should ___."

  • "I never finished ___."

Step 2: Sort. Go back through your list and place each item in one of three columns.

Mine: Still feels true and chosen. It belongs to me and I'd choose it again.

Inherited: Came from someone else: a parent, teacher, culture, former boss, or community. I picked it up without deciding.

No Longer True: Used to be true or useful. It served a past season of my life.

Step 3: Look closer (10 minutes). Choose two items from the "Inherited" or "No Longer True" columns.

For each one, answer:

  1. Where did this come from? Who or what taught it to me?

  2. What did it give me, such as safety, belonging, or approval?

  3. If I met this belief for the first time today, would I choose it?

  4. What would it cost me to keep carrying it? What might it cost me to put it down?
